Premire Baton Rouge Moving Company – 225-292-2424

If you are moving to Baton Rouge in 2015 and are a movie fanatic then you will be thrilled to hear that the city is revamping their local movie theater to one of luxury.

Baton Rouge’s Citiplace Stadium 11 will be turning into Movie Tavern. Movie Tavern is a New Orleans-based company whose parent company is Southern Theaters.

Commencement of the rebuild is set for January and once it is finished, Baton Rouge movie-goers will be able to enjoy luxury recliners, state-of-the-art sound, and massive 3D projectors. Movie Tavern is also a full-service movie theater so movie-goers can order food and drinks right from their seat.

National Retail Properties of Orlando, Florida bought the Citiplace complex and an additional surrounding 6.8 acres for a total of $8.2 million.

Excited, Southern Theaters Director of Marketing Danny Giacomo says that, “this will be our second Movie Tavern location in Louisiana, and we are planning a third location in Denham Springs for summer 2015.”

Construction of the 45,193 square-foot complex is said to create over 200 full-time and part-time jobs for the theater, and 100 construction jobs.

This past October, 90-year-old Mary Elizabeth Norckauer competed in nine events in the Louisiana Senior Olympic Games and won each event’s gold medal, six of which were track and field events that she broke the standing American record for. Although her competition results are pending official approval, Louisiana is proud that Norckauer represents living a healthy lifestyle no matter what your age.

Since her 90th birthday, Norckauer has been an ice skater, ballet dancer, champion archer and pistol shooter, baseball player, competitive runner, and now an Olympic medalist.

Norckauer told The Advocate during one of her three weekly trips to the A.C. Lewis YMCA gym in Baton Rouge,“I like to keep moving. It’s a way of life. Fitness is a way of life. It’s not just something you go and decide to go and go to a fitness club once a week. It’s keeping in condition.”

However, Norckauer does not compete just to stay active, she loves sweet victory.

“They’re always dangling a carrot,” Norckauer said. “I’ve always been tempted. If they give a medal or some kind of award, I’m there. I don’t care if it’s keeping my yard, keeping my house nice, training someone to do something. Do the best you can no matter what it is.”

When she turned 90 this year, she knew that she could beat some records for her age group and she has no plans on stopping.

“As long as I’m able,” she said. “Why stop? If you find something that works for you, just keep moving. In fact, I have goals to 100,” says Norckauer.

Norckauer lends us all some great advice, stating that you should never stop learning and that there is always something new that you can learn and try to be your best at. If you are moving to Baton Rouge and have elderly members in your family, they too can take part in the Louisiana Senior Olympic Games, but Norckauer is going to be one tough cookie to compete with.

The trade association for U.S. computer and video-game publishers released their 2012 study on November 10th and reported that Louisiana’s computer and video game industry paid workers more than $14 million during the 1012 year.

The report is part of the Entertainment Software Association’s Video Games in the 21st Century: The 2014 Report and shows that Louisiana dispersed the millions between three video game development facilities, making the state the 26th largest employer of video game personnel in the United States.

The $14 million came from video game companies and was distributed between Louisiana’s 226 direct and indirect video game industry employees, making the average yearly earnings between the 226 employees roughly $87,922.

According to President and Chief Executive Officer of the Entertainment Software Association, Michael D. Gallagher, the video game industry is booming in Louisiana and, “Our industry is one of the nation’s fastest-growing economic sectors, and we believe there is an important opportunity to expand our industry’s impact in Louisiana by creating even more high-tech, high-paying jobs for its citizens.”

If you are moving to Baton Rouge, are looking for a career, and just so happen to love video games, you could also earn $90k a year doing what you love. Move to Baton Rouge and create the next popular video game for 2015.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society describes multiple sclerosis as a disabling disease of the central nervous system that can disrupt the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Although the cause of MS is still unknown, scientists believe it to be triggered by a genetic predisposition.

Each year, BASF Global’s Baton Rouge branch in Geismar holds an annual Bike MS. Bike MS is a two-day, 150-mile ride that raises funds and spreads awareness for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The 2014 event just passed and raised $9,660.

“As part of our commitment to our surrounding community, BASF entered our team in the Bike MS for the fourth year in a row,” said Tom Yura, senior vice president and manager of the BASF site in Geismar. “It’s a tough physical challenge that takes a lot of time and preparation, and we admire the commitment of our fellow employees and all Bike MS participants.”

BASF’s Geismar branch registered 19 riders in Bike MS 2014, with Instrument and Electrical Design Leader Glen Achord participating for the 17th time.

“Many employees know someone who has multiple sclerosis, and Bike MS is a way to get directly involved and do something to help. We also stress that you don’t have to ride to support Bike MS — you can sign up as a ‘virtual rider’ and help with fundraising” said Achord.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge and you or someone you know has been diagnosed with MS, or if you just like to volunteer, visit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society’s website for next year’s Bike MS information and event date and create MS awareness in your new Baton Rouge neighborhood.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge this month, watch out for the season’s thickest traffic jam as the Fighting Tigers take on Alabama’s Crimson Tide this weekend!

Last weekend, LSU defeated Ole Miss with a last-second finish and over 100,000 fans left the stadium all at once, causing one of LSU’s most congested postgame traffic jams to date.

On Saturday, November 8, over 160,000 fans are expected to swarm LSU’s campus to watch the Tigers play Crimson Tide.

In an attempt to control the postgame traffic, police will be setting up shop at various intersections around campus at an earlier than usual time of 11 a.m. although kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Police and school officials urge anyone who is planning on attending the game Saturday night to take into consideration traffic and parking. Parking is first-come, first-serve and typically free. If fans do not make it to the stadium at a reasonable time they may have to pay for parking at a venue nearby.

When LSU played Alabama in 2012, free parking filled up five hours before kickoff.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge before the game on Saturday, plan on there being quite a bit of extra traffic in the area and let All My Sons Moving & Storage of Baton Rouge make your move easy and stress-free, so that you can enjoy your first LSU football game.

Louisiana State University is on bye this weekend, but the LSU Tigers will take on College Football Playoff (CFP) selection committee’s No. 6 pick Alabama when they return to the field on November 8th.

Although LSU ranks No. 16, they recently won against No. 4 Mississippi, and have only lost two games against No. 1 Mississippi State, and No. 3 Auburn.

This year is the first year that college football is following the CFP selection rankings, as opposed to the previous Bowl Championship Series (BCS) rankings.

The BCS rankings are said to have led to too much controversy over the years and the CFP is a newer system that it is initiating this year. The CFP is comprised of a 12-member committee that will compile the rankings of the top 25 teams. The teams that land in the top four spots are the ones who will get to compete in a playoff that will then decide the national championship. Even though the new system is supposed to be a resolution to the controversy issues, some are skeptical that there is still bias present in the rankings.

Whether you are a college football fanatic, or a high school senior applying to college, the LSU Tigers are a force to be reckoned with and rank among the top 10 college football teams in the nation. If you are moving to Baton Rouge to attend LSU, let All My Sons Moving & Storage make your move simple and fun so that you do not miss the weekly game.

The 2014 Halloween holiday is stirring up some controversy in Baton Rouge.

Many residents are arguing that the city is violating residents’ First Amendment rights by setting restrictions on trick-or-treating hours and posting signs outside of registered sex offenders’ homes to warn Halloween visitors.

“While protecting children at Halloween and any other time is a legitimate purpose, these initiatives do nothing to enhance public safety, while violating fundamental rights guaranteed to all,” ACLU Louisiana Executive Director Marjorie Esman said.

For most of East Baton Rouge, Ascension, Livingston and Iberville parishes, trick-or-treat hours are from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Baker, Clinton, and Wilson cities have times set for 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday instead of Halloween Day on Friday.

West Feliciana Parish’s times are also set for Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Albany has trick-or-treating hours of 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Halloween night.

But Esman wrote that municipalities shouldn’t do that, because it’s restricting freedom of speech and assembly.

Esman’s letter to the Lousiana sheriffs also stated that, “No governmental body may prohibit anyone from ringing someone else’s doorbell at any time for any legitimate purpose, nor may the government prohibit anyone from giving ‘treats’ to visitors at any time”.

The department has responded, saying that they are not the ones who actually set the trick-or-treating times, the mayor’s office does and that any issues should be brought to their attention instead.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge, make sure that your check your neighborhood’s trick-or-treating times and stay safe!

More people have voted early in at least ten states than in 2010. Republicans and Democrats alike say the numbers show that they have the advantage in key Senate races heading into Tuesday.

In Louisiana, early turnout is 181 percent of its 2010 figure, the largest increase of any state. This may be due to the fact that registered Democrats have a 19-point advantage this year, compared to 4.4 points back in 2010. Republican Senator David Vitter still won the 2010 year by almost 19 percentage points. Polls suggest that Senator Mary Landrieu will need a huge African-American turnout to counter the trend of white registered Democrats in support of the GOP.

Early voting takes place from October 21-28 and primary election voting takes place November 4, 2014, know what Amendments are up for review and if you are moving to Baton Rouge by election time, GO VOTE!

Baton Rouge, Louisiana is home to some of the best special effects artists from the movie industry, so each year they take advantage of the opportunity to give residents an incredible scare. The result of their efforts is known as The 13th Gate.

The 13th Gate has created one of the most realistically themes haunted houses in the country, maintaining a spot in the top ten “Best Haunted Houses in America” by hauntworld.com for 13 consecutive years. The 13thGate is also the only haunted attraction in Louisiana to make the list.

Hauntworld.com describes the experience as “real” and unlike any other haunted house.

The 13th Gate is described as being so unusual that it will make you question whether or not it’s real.

“Walls, buildings and facades seemed built to look the way they should look, not bound by 4×8 panels. The install seemed permanent, with cobble stones on the floor, real leaves, water, etc. Props were not piled on top of each other; they were only where they ‘should’ be,” according to Ben Armstrong from hauntworld.com.

Armstrong goes on to describe that what makes the world of difference when it comes to haunted houses is the aspect of “real” vs. “detail” and how detail is good but can be too much; while real is what is going to scare your pants off. He describes the experience as, “breathtaking and extremely impressive”.

The 13th Gate opened for the 2014 year on September 26th and will be open every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from October 2 to 25. The attraction will then be open every night from October 26- November 1. Tickets for The 13th Gate General Admission are priced at $27, while VIP Skip the Line tickets are $42. For an even scarier experience of The 13th Gate, there will be a special event taking place November 7th and 8th where guests can visit the haunted house and take part in a completely pitch black, with only a flashlight, experience of the haunted attraction.

If you are moving to Baton Rouge and will be new to the area this Halloween, join the annual 50,000 guests and check out The 13th Gate.

If things go well, Baton Rouge is going to see a few dozen new faces soon. With baby boomer teachers starting to retire, around fifty jobs have opened up in the East Baton Rouge Parish School System alone. In large cities like Baton Rouge with a deficit of available teachers, it’s common to hold job fairs elsewhere. That’s exactly what’s happening.

After the recent event in Moon Township, PA, we’ve made some headway. Things are better, but Louisiana will still need more teachers every year. We at All My Sons Moving & Storage feel that moving to Baton Rouge is always a great plan, and we’re glad as a family owned company to welcome any new teachers to the area.
