Moving to a new place is tough, and moving gets even harder when you have to completely change cities and neighborhoods. Humans are creatures of habit; forming new habits are stressful and time consuming, and require a bit of trial and error. Finding your place within a new community is not straight forward and can feel intimidating and overwhelming.

Meeting people in your new Baton Rouge neighborhood is the most direct route to making a new community feel like your home. Whether you are moving across town or across the country, there are a few tips from the Baton Rouge mover and packers that will help make your Baton Rouge community feel like home.

  1. Make the first move.

Open up the chance to get to meet and know your neighbors by doing something as easy as simply waving hello.

  1. Appear approachable.

The movers and packers of Baton Rouge suggest creating the chance for others to welcome you to the neighborhood by appearing available. Taking a few steps to seem less preoccupied can allow for others to feel comfortable enough to come introduce themselves.

  1. Become local.

Do as the locals do and frequent the local restaurants, farmer markets, or shops. Soon enough, a nearby destination will be one of those places where a few people know your name.

  1. Get involved.

There is no better way to meet like-minded individuals other than by participating in activities that are meaningful to you. All it takes is a little digging to find the right fit, but the best places to start are schools, parks, recreation commissions, sports organizations, and of course, neighbors and fellow parents.

These figures also do not include vehicle sales, which are for the most part examined separately when looking at spending as an economic indicator. The spending, excluding vehicles, within the Baton Rouge district, were up 5.6 percent for 2015, coming to a total of $4.8 billion. In comparison, the spending outside of Baton Rouge was down 1.1 percent for the year totaling nearly $3.7 billion.

In December alone, spending in the parish was up by 2.7 percent at $823.8 million. That was the biggest month for sales during the entire year and came directly after November, where activity was 3.9 percent better than the 2014 figures.

The year 2015 confirmed that Baton Rouge is becoming a residential destination in the United States. Twenty years ago, Baton Rouge was not a popular destination whatsoever. Ten years ago, the two historic residential neighborhoods in town started seeing an influx of new residents. Today, Baton Rouge is booming with new residents, and in order to meet their needs, the city is expanding residential housing.

Baton Rouge moving companies, and even locals, are thrilled that their area is finally on the map as a residential hot spot. As demand continues to increase, homes in Spanish Town and Beauregard Town are on the rise, and hundreds of apartments and condos are set and ready for construction in downtown.

The uptick in residential home sales has Baton Rouge movers and real estate agents and local contractors rejoicing. But perhaps the biggest benefit can be seen in the Baton Rouge economy, which is booming.

Darryl Gissel is not only a Spanish Town resident, but also a Realtor who specializes in the area. His comments were, “Downtown was considered a wasteland. Today, when you go somewhere, people talk about how exciting it is. Perception has totally changed. You used to see drug dealers on the Capitol grounds and people doing nefarious things. Now you see people with children having picnics, taking pictures. It’s pretty amazing to see people enjoying an urban public space.”

There truly has been no better time to move to Baton Rouge, and the local movers at All My Sons would love to help make your move as easy as possible. Call 225-292-2424 to speak with a moving specialist and receive a free, at-home moving estimate today!
